Generosity Moment - 1 John 5:3  “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.” God’s commandments are not burdensome, but that’s only true for Christians precisely because we know that we are not saved by our keeping of the Law. We are saved by grace. Therefore we are set free by grace to walk in newness of life, to grow in faithfulness, and rejoice in the Law of the Lord: for the love of God is that we keep His commandments, even in His instructions for our faithfully regular giving to His church in our offerings.

TODAY - SWEETEN IT UP WITH SPYS CINNAMON ROLLS – This morning (Mothers Day) our SPYS high school and junior high youth will be hosting a fundraiser with freshly-baked, scrumptious, titillating, mouth-watering, irresistible, OUT OF THIS WORLD Cinnamon Rolls for purchase following the services at Central site in the Entrance Way (Narthex) and in the Undercroft.  There will be an opportunity at Northwest site on a future date.  This will be a fundraiser to help them finance some of their summer events and to save up for next summer’s National Youth Gathering in New Orleans.  We will accept your generous Free Will offering for you to get your fill of an EXTRA TREAT for yourself by coming to church that day.  Why not buy them and share with someone else? Thank you, Board of Youth Parents, for putting this together.

THIS THURSDAY - Ascension Worship – Forty days after rising from the dead Jesus took his disciples to a hill and rose into the sky say, “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”  Now He sits on God’s throne as Son of God but also human representative making our way there possible through faith in His work and His guiding us through life.  Worship on this day is a deep tradition in the Christian church.  Join us for such worship this Thursday, May 14th at 7pm at the Northwest site for a service of Holy Communion with Pastor Thies preaching.

SOMETHING DIFFERENT – Join us for our Wednesday night activity at 6:30pm at Northwest site with “SOMETHING DIFFERENT,” our devotional Bible Study led by Pastor Thies.  We will utilize the last segment of a video based resource from Lutheran Hour Ministries called, “Bible on Trial: Beyond a Reasonable Doubt” called “Eyewitness Testimony.” Following this series, we plan to continue on Wednesdays with some video lectures from Dr. Ken Ham of “Answers in Genesis.”  Dr. Ham maintains that “Genesis is the foundation for all Christian doctrine and even the gospel of Jesus Christ.”  Come and try SOMETHING DIFFERENT!

Church Grounds Maintenance will take place at the Central Site on Friday, May 15th beginning at 8:30am. Bring your favorite yard tools and help spruce up the grounds at Central Site! Call Roger Eggert with questions at 815-742-1988.

Special Congregational Meeting -  Next Sunday, May 17th, 2015 – Our Congregational Chairman, at the request of our Board of Parish Education, has called a Special Meeting for next weekend at 11:45am or whenever the late service ends for the purpose of considering a teaching candidate or candidates for a call to teach at our school for the coming year.  Please plan to attend and hear more on the individual(s) and register your vote as to whether to extent a call to these Synodically trained servants among us.

Congratulations to High School Grads – This year we have a good crop of High School Grads that our SPYS Group and church wish to recognize.  This will take place in our services on Sunday, May 17th at the Central site.  Let’s all wish them well as they continue to new horizons.

ACOLYTE TRAINING will be moved to a later date than the planned date of Sunday, May 17th, due to the Special Congregational Meeting.
