Generosity Moment - John 15:2 “Every branch of mine that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” God is interested in the fruit that we bear in good works, and He even prunes us so that we may bring forth more fruit. Trusting in our Lord’s work for us, being grafted by grace into His vine, we desire to be more like Him, to grow into His image. That’s growth in fruit bearing…and it always comes with some pruning. Some of it takes place as we give away our financial gifts in regular offering giving to the Lord’s purposes.
CARE MINISTRY GATHERING – Come and join us for a meal, fellowship and planning for the future of Care Ministry at St. Paul. Everything will be provided. All we need is YOU. We will meet this morning after the 10:30 service in the Undercroft. We do have a place for you. We always could use new partners in the care of God’s people. Thanks to all who have served in the past and to those currently serving in the Care Ministry. If you have any questions please call Roger 815-742-1988 or Lowes 815-742-5788 Eggert. Hope to see you there.
Pastor Thies will be away this week in Chicago for Tuesday and Wednesday for the NID Pastors’ Conference.
LADIES GUILD IS MEETING on Wednesday, May 6th at the Northwest Site at 1:00pm. Rock House Kids will explain their program to us. During May they collect NEW Flip Flops and NEW Socks for ages 5 through High School. Bring either of these items with you to the meeting to give to the speaker to distribute to the Kids in their program. Secondly, bring any of the following to give to Ruth Hintz---a new large spool of thread---sewing needles---6 matching buttons---which she will forward with cotton material to Lutheran World Relief. REMEMBER your MITES to help meet the goal of funding LWML Mission Grants, one of which has helped Lutheran Church Charities clean up from the recent tornado in Fairdale.
SOMETHING DIFFERENT – Join us for our Wednesday night activity at 6:30pm at Northwest site with “SOMETHING DIFFERENT,” our devotional Bible Study led by Pastor Thies. With our new start, we will utilize a video based resource from Lutheran Hour Ministries called, “Bible on Trial: Beyond a Reasonable Doubt.” Our schedule for this presentation and discussion is as follows:
Wednesday, May 6th - Archaeology's Contribution
Wednesday, May 13th - Eyewitness Testimony
We also hope to promote this event to our community surrounding our Northwest site in the hopes of bringing new folk to explore our Christian family at St. Paul. SO NOW’S YOUR CHANCE! Come and try SOMETHING DIFFERENT. Following this series, we plan to continue on Wednesdays with some video lectures from Dr. Ken Ham of “Answers in Genesis.” Dr. Ham maintains that “Genesis is the foundation for all Christian doctrine and even the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
The full School student body will present "The Agape League" on Friday, May 8 at 7:30 PM in the Wesling Coaches' Gymnasium. This is a fun musical featuring superheroes whose super powers are the Fruits of the Spirit.
Ascension Worship – Forty days after rising from the dead Jesus took his disciples to a hill and rose into the sky say, “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Now He sits on God’s throne as Son of God but also human representative making our way there possible as well through faith in His work and guiding us through life. Worship on this day is a deep tradition in the Christian church. Join us for such worship on Thursday, May 14th at 7pm at the Northwest site for a service of Holy Communion with Pastor Thies preaching.
