In the introduction to the Large Catechism, Martin Luther wrote "I must still read and study daily, and yet I cannot master it as I wish, but must remain a child and pupil of the Catechism, and am glad so to remain". The Large Catechism contains the basic foundations that all of our doctrine is built upon: the Ten Commandments, the Creed, Lord's Prayer and the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Would you like to dig deeper into these basic biblical doctrines that we as Lutherans hold so dear? Join us as we begin studying Luther's Large Catechism during Sunday morning Bible study beginning this morning! This study will be taking place at both the Central at 9:15am and Northwest site at 10:15am.
Generosity Moment – Matthew 18:4 “Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” What does it mean to have childlike faith? Certainly Jesus does not want us to have a faith that is childish: we are not called to ignorance or silliness. Rather, we are called to trust the way a child trusts: with complete confidence in the Father. We show that confidence in our lives when we follow His directives for our life: Father knows best, so we’ll take His advice, even when He leads us to give in our offerings so that He can prove His blessings to us in a greater way.
We are happy to receive new members today in our Northwest site service at 9:15. Angela and daughter Brianna Knobbe and Steve Litteral will be received by Profession of Faith. Please welcome them as Angela and Bri return and Steve and family begin their walk with us more closely.
Monday Morning Bible Class resumes tomorrow, September 8th at 10:00am in the Central site undercroft. We will continue our study work with Pastor Thies in the Old Testament book of Zechariah. Along with it we have great fellowship and fun and lift up our prayers for our concerns to our Lord. Come join us and give it a try. We love to welcome new study companions!
Dinner Auction Meeting – If you are interested in assisting with the Dinner Auction, there will be a meeting tomorrow, September 8th at 6:30pm in the Conference room at Central Site. Please contact Sue Wilkinson if you are interested!
Next Sunday is our next CHURCH 4U Neighborhood Service at the Central site where we invite our surrounding neighborhood to a worship time especially dedicated to them and their needs. We could use your help in praying for our efforts, handing out invitations in the neighborhood beginning at 3pm from the Central site parking lot this Wednesday, or coming to the service next Sunday at 2:30pm to worship, make new friends or help serve them the meal. Pastor Thies will deliver the message and Carl Cole will have the music.
“SOMETHING DIFFERENT” continues this week on Wednesday, September 10th, at 6:30pm. SOMETHING DIFFERENT is a time of prayer, fellowship, Bible study on Revelation with Pastor Thies and a few other things. Plan to try it out and maybe bring a friend.
Altar Guild needs volunteers for the Central Site. For more information, please call Karen Utech at 815-229-6940.
Thank you to all who are donating children’s book and coloring books to the Bible shelf in the Narthex. Materials that are not Bible based are being transferred to the nursery.
