Prayer for the Day is a daily devotional ministry. To hear a devotion recorded by Pastor Thies, please call the special Prayer for the Day phone number (963-7641) and then dial 3 when the call is answered.

Generosity Moment – Matthew 20:9  “And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius.” Behold the generosity of God! He gives out of His grace, not what we deserve to receive. Living a godly life means living in imitation of God – and surely one of the foundations of God’s being is His generosity.  And that influences our financial giving in our offerings to His church.

COME TODAY! - In the introduction to the Large Catechism, Martin Luther wrote "I must still read and study daily, and yet I cannot master it as I wish, but must remain a child and pupil of the Catechism, and am glad so to remain".  The Large Catechism contains the basic foundations that all of our doctrine is built upon: the Ten Commandments, the Creed, Lord's Prayer and the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper.  Would you like to dig deeper into these basic biblical doctrines that we as Lutherans hold so dear?  Join us as we study Luther's Large Catechism during Sunday morning Bible study at both the Central at 9:15am and Northwest site at 10:15am.

High School SPYS Youth – Next weekend come to Youth Class at 9:15am in the Central site Cafeteria for a full menu breakfast of eggs, meat & pancakes.  It’s to kick off our weekly Sunday Youth Class schedule for 1st, 3rd & 5th Sundays.  We’ll review activities for fall and have a devotion with our time.  It’ll be tasty and a nice time together.

Last week’s CHURCH 4U Neighborhood Service at Central site - It was a beautiful day where everyone pitched in and joined in worship for 35 new neighborhood guests for worship, food & friendship. Thanks to all who delivered 500 invitations on the streets, attended, prayed, served food and cleaned up. Pastor Thies gave a message on Jesus winning the battle of our life and for our soul. Carl & Dianna Cole & Bettie Pumphrey led us in wonderful music. Our total with helpers was 44.

Sunday School is TWO weeks away – It’s a slower start this year but we needed some transition.  We are very thankful to Lora Jackson who headed our program for nearly a decade.  She needed to transition out for other responsibilities.  But she is working with our new leader (superintendant) Katie Lopez to get us up and running by Sunday, October 5th at 9:15am at Central site.  We need any parties that can pitch in to make it work to contact either of them, the church office or Pastor Thies so that the task is shared by many.  There is also some possibility of some Sunday School at Northwest site being considered by others. Please consider helping and pray for our children’s ministry in this and other ways for the generations to come.

Two new AED units have been installed in the narthex at both sites.  Mark Beck has volunteered to train interested members(especially any ushers) in their use after all services on October 12.  Please remain in the back of the church for a brief (10 -15 minute) session.  These life saving devices were donated to St. Paul in loving memory of Jack and Nan Shugart through generous memorial gifts to their beloved Church.

Ambassador Ministries is a weekly Wednesday Bible study on discipleship and Christian life skills taught by our member, Luegene Batten, and others including daughter LuGina.  They meet at 7pm in the Undercroft.  Enter from Locust Street at the side door “L” and give it a try.

“SOMETHING DIFFERENT” continues this week on Wednesday, September 24th, at 6:30pm.  SOMETHING DIFFERENT is a time of prayer, fellowship, Bible study on Revelation with Pastor Thies and a few other things.  Plan to try it out and maybe bring a friend

Altar Guild needs volunteers for the Central Site. For more information, please call Karen Utech at 815-229-6940.

It was April 4, 1964 that St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Rockton, IL had its first Voters' Meeting as a congregation of the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod. Today, at 3:00pm, they will have a special prayer and praise service followed by a celebration dinner at the Rockton American Legion Hall to remember how God has blessed St. Andrew with the privilege of being the people of God in this community for 50 years. The Rev. Allan Buss of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Belvidere, IL and LCMS NID West Region Vice President will be the guest preacher for this special worship service. Please consider joining them on this special day of celebration and praise to God for His faithfulness and blessings to St. Andrew. God's peace to all.

Join us for our first St. Pauliday of the year!  What is a St. Pauliday?  That is when the St. Paul family meets at a local eatery and the restaurant provides a portion of the proceeds as a gift to our school.  So, put your apron away and join us at Sam's Drive In in Byron on Sunday, September 28 from noon until 4:00 PM.  Big thanks to the Aldrichs' (St. Paul Members) for hosting us at their drive in!

Rockford's Oktoberfest is Friday, October 3 and Saturday, October 4 at the Loves Park City Hall.  The Rockford German Society provides a generous gift to St. Paul in return for our volunteering in the kitchen.  Please consider joining us.  The work is easy and the fellowship is fun.  Call the school office to take a shift at Oktoberfest (815-965-3335 3xt. 215).

St. Paul Lutheran School has seats available in the following grades: Kindergarten, 7th & 8th grades. Grades 1-6 are at capacity. However, we may make an exception in those grades if a sibling of a new student in grades K, 7& 8 were to enroll.

Do you want to hang out with kids and serve our school as well?  Then, we have fantastic opportunities for you!  We are seeking a volunteer study hall "sitter" on Mondays and Fridays from 12:30 - 1:15 PM.  The study hall has about 12 5th and 6th grade students. We are also continually looking for people to read with students.  Carol Ulrich is the coordinator for this effort.  Please contact the school office if you are interested in either valuable position (815-965-3335 est. 215 or stpaulrockford@gmail.com).

Little Lambs is now accepting applications for fall enrollment. Please call Jan Morton at 815-965-3335, ext. 218.
