Announcements for Sunday, February 23 2014
Prayer for the Day is a daily devotional
ministry. To hear a devotion recorded by Pastor Thies, please call the special
Prayer for the Day phone number (963-7641) and then dial 3 when the call is
answered.
Generosity Moment - Luke 8:11 “The seed
is the word of God.” It all starts with the Word. “In the beginning the Word
was with God…” “He saved us by the regeneration of water and the Word…” “The
Word of the Lord stands forever.” We never outgrow our need to hear the Word of
God. We never achieve such greatness that we don’t need the blessings of God’s
Word. Rather the Christian life is one of always striving to conform our lives
to God’s Word – to live out the truth of our Baptisms, that we are God’s
children by the power of his Word.
High School SPYS (Youth) –
This Friday (Feb. 28th) night is our Lock In with the youth at Mount Olive . Please bring $5 for the cost. A team from
Concordia Wisconsin
is leading the program. Please arrive at
8:30pm. Plan to be picked up at 7am.
Let’s all try to come and enjoy our fellow Lutheran Christian youth at Mount Olive .
The
Season of Lent is coming upon us soon.
It begins with Ash Wednesday, March 2nd. We will have worship at 10:30am at Central
and 7pm at Northwest with ours and other area pastors providing the worship
messages. Following Wednesday special
Lenten worship services will continue through the Season until Holy Week. As a result “Something Different” will resume
after that and the Easter week break on Wednesday, April 30th.
"SOMETHING DIFFERENT" - We are meeting this
week Wednesday at 6:30pm at the Northwest Site for our last time before Lent
with a study portion on Revelation led by Pastor Thies. Come and try SOMETHING DIFFERENT!
You might like SOMETHING DIFFERENT!
THE MARCH LADIES GUILD
meeting is on Wednesday, March 5th at 12:30pm at the CENTRAL Site
in the undercroft following the Potluck lunch. A surprise or two about
some of our members could be revealed in our program about "Getting
to Know You." We will have
nominations for officers for next year, and you can also turn in the MITES you
have saved.
Do you have
unwanted but usable furniture that you would like to put toward a ministry
purpose. “Ambassador Services” operates
as a non profit outlet to supply to the needs of those who are in the market
for second hand furniture. With it,
however, a customer receives an inquiry and a witness regarding their walk with
Jesus (hence: “Ambassador Services”).
Ambassador Services operates a showroom next to Morning Glory Restaurant
at 404 7th St.
in Rockford . For inquiries, call 815-289-6126.
USHERS WANTED! Interested
in becoming an usher? We can use you! If you are high-school age or
above and would like to be added to our usher rotation, please let us know.
This is a great way to get to know your fellow members and serve your
congregation. We will work to assign you to a team that best fits your
schedule. Contact Jon Schuknecht (jschuknecht@att.net) for teams at the Northwest Site or
Aaron Temple (aaron.temple@gmail.com)
for teams at the Central Site.

Do you know
someone who could become a St. Paul Supporter? St. Paul
Supporter could be anyone form throughout our area or around the country. They could be your family, friends,
coworkers, members of churches who do not have a school to support - really
anyone. Our supporters will receive
periodic updates about the ministry of our school. We will ask them to support us by prayer and
telling others about St. Paul
Lutheran School . They are not obligated or even asked for a
financial gift. Although, we will
include an envelope if they would like to support us in that way. Our goal is to "Share or Story" to
as many as will hear it! Consider adding
10 names of people you know to our mailing list. Simple forms are available in the church
narthex as well as both the school and church office. This is a project of our new Development
Office. Please talk to Bruce Volkert,
our school principal, if you have questions.
For regular Church Bulletin Readers... The title "St. Paul Support" replaces "St.
Paul Cheerleader" so people don't think they have to have pom-poms to
support our school!
Mark your Calendar for Saturday, March 8th from 11
am – 2 pm and join us for St.
Paul School 's
Fun Fair. To go along with our school
theme the Fun Fair’s theme is “Growing in Jesus!” We are looking for donations of all kinds to
be used for our “give away” table.
Please see Liz Temple (815)637-4486 if you have something you
would be willing to donate. Thank you!!
‘Pastor Krause is
planning on starting a new “Learn to read
Greek” class on Thursday, March 13th. This is a slow-paced,
informal class where lay-people can learn to read the New Testament in the
original Greek language. There are people from a few different churches
who attend, so you won’t feel like an outsider. We regularly meet on
Thursday from 4:30 to 5:30 PM in the basement of Mount Olive Lutheran church
(2001 N. Alpine). Come and see how a different approach to reading the
bible can open new avenues to understanding God’s word for us. If you
have any questions, contact Pastor Krause at Mount Olive
(815-399-3171) or Jon Schuknecht, who is one of the current students.
