Generosity Moment - Amos 6:1Woe to those who are at ease in Zion. . . .” The Book of Amos is a warning to God's people who have been given great material wealth. As Jesus Himself mentions, material blessings can turn into temptations – chiefly the temptation to think of ourselves as self-sufficient and independent. What does Amos suggest as a way to combat this temptation? First off: faith in the Lord and dependence upon Him! And if our faith is right we will want to follow the rest of Amos's instructions: to bless the poor with our alms and to make sure the Lord's House is properly cared for. In other words: to align our actions with God's priorities and put others ahead of ourselves in our weekly giving to Him.

Join us for Sunday School beginning this morning!  Journey with the Old Testament Israelites as they are led by the judges and their first king in their struggles to remain faithful to God. Discover how our lives today are similar to that of the Old Testament Israelites. All children Pre-K through 8th grade are invited to attend Sunday School at the Central Site at 9:15am in the school’s band room. Don’t miss out on the four M’s of Sunday School this year – MUSIC, MISSIONS, MEMORY VERSES and MESSAGE (Bible Story)!!

LADIES GUILD will be meeting on TUESDAY, October 4th at the Northwest Site at 1:00pm. After the business meeting, we will organize and prepare the dining room for the Salad, Sandwich and Pie Luncheon being served on Wednesday, October 5th.  Pies and Salads are still needed and requested.  Contact Vicky Semenchuk (815-877-3874) or Betty Steiner (815-877-2721) to donate.  Remember to bring MITES and to pay $20 yearly dues if not paid at the September meeting.

On Wednesday October 5th one of the traditions of fall begins with our Ladies Guild serving of the SANDWICH, SALAD and PIE Luncheon.  Serving times are from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Northwest Site.  Tickets are $7.00 and can be purchased from any Ladies Guild member or on the day of the luncheon.  Anyone willing to donate a salad or pie can do so by contacting Betty Steiner (815-877-2721) or Vicky Semenchuk (815-877-3874).   Flu shots for 2016 are available from 10:30am until 1:00pm. The Foundation Fund directors manage an account from which interest earned is available for active St. Paul Lutheran families who have a student(s) enrolled in Rockford Lutheran High School.  The account has received memorials in honor of saints who are now in the Church Triumphant, as well as gifts from other supporters of Lutheran High School. If you have a high school student at Lutheran, please contact Steve Hartenberger at 968-2089 or hrtnbrgr@comcast.net by September 30, 2016.  We will send a check to the school and evenly allocate the available funds to each student’s tuition shortly after the deadline.

Are you interested in being a tutor or reading with St. Paul students? If so, please contact Carol Ulrich or Tara Jepsen at 815-965-3335. We are in need of volunteer tutors to work with students of all ages, any day of the week!
