Prayer for the Day is a daily devotional ministry. To hear a devotion recorded by Pastor Thies, please call the special Prayer for the Day phone number (963-7641) and then dial 3 when the call is answered.

Generosity Moment - Acts 1:16Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.” Judas sold out our Lord for 30 pieces of silver – that is, he sold out his friend, and Master, and teacher for the sake of greed. That is a sharp reminder for us to search our own hearts for greed and to pray that the Lord would help us to turn away from greed before it consumes us.  With that then, we can see our weekly financial offering giving as a gift from God of deliverance from greed.

Our church secretary, Sue Wilkinson will be on vacation until May 17th.

Special Offering - St. Paul Piecemakers meet every Tuesday at the Northwest Site to make quilts for Lutheran World Relief. The ship out those quilts every October to the Lutheran World Relief  warehouse in New Windsor, MD to be shipped to Armenia, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Serbia & Syria for distribution amongst refugees and internally displaced persons. Since 2011, Lutherans have sent more than 7 million quilts and kits reaching more than 337,000 people. Quilts also go to numerous other poverty and disaster stricken areas around the world. To help defray shipping costs, a special offering will be taken at each service this morning. Please provide your gift in the plate at the exit of the church. It costs approximately $2.25 per quilt, and would like to at least cover the cost of the 80-100 quilts that Piecemakers sends each year. Thank you for your help!

Knitting ETC and Community Activity Day Potluck will be held at the Northwest Site on May 12th at 11:00. Please come and join us in fun, food and fellowship. Bring a dish to share, everything else will be provided. We have a good time and keep in touch with each other.
If you are wondering what Knitting ETC is all about it is for anyone who wants to join in any type of handwork at all. Bring your project along each Thursday at 11:00 or just come when that day is available for you.  We learn from each other and have a good time together. Community Activity Day is for folks who have the 2nd Thursday time available that would like to join together for some type of activity. A variety of options are available such as a game or discussion or whatever we together come up with to do. It is for ALL to come together and decide where this goes. Ideas are welcome. If you have any questions or for more information please call Lowes Eggert at 815-742-5788 or Olaf Bauschke at 815-282-2706.

Our next youth (SPYs) Cinnamon Roll sale is next Sunday, May 15th.  Get your advance order with the order sheet that is available in this bulletin.  We hope to have a few left, even if you don’t.  But they go fast.  They’re SWEET!

The Crusader Thrift Shop will be closing their doors on May 27th. They are having a big sales to get rid of everything. All clothing will be .25 and other items half off. All fixtures are for sale also. No more donations are being accepted.

Vacation Bible School 2016 – We would like to spice it up a little differently this year under the theme “Ocean Commotion: Diving into Noah’s Flood.”  We will be using this curriculum published by Answers in Genesis, that hosts the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky (near Cincinnati). Our DCE trained Marybeth Madsen (who also serves as our school Kindergarten teacher) & Pastor Thies have agreed to serve as coordinators together.  But we need a lot of adult and youth volunteers to make it all happen.  We plan to have it at Northwest site this year, July 11-15, from 5:30pm until 8pm.  Be thinking how you can help, mark your calendars and register any kids you can snag for our “Ocean Commotion!”

Habitat for Humanity - The building season for Habitat is starting the first Saturday in May. We are building 5 houses this year and could use more volunteers. We work from 9 till 3 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 8:30 till 4:00 on Saturdays. On Tuesday and Thursdays you provide you own Lunch on Saturday they provide lunch, which usually consist of a sandwich, fruit, chips and a cookie or brownie, everything is pretty good. I have been doing this for 12 or 13 years and have helped build 15 or 16 houses and enjoy it very much.  The chances to be a witness to your faith is great and to meet and make new friends also. You really don’t need special skills to help; you can be a runner or just help hold some thing, or we will teach you as we go along. You don’t have to come every day just come when you can. I will be working on 2 houses near Montrose and Central. Pete Rundquist is a board member for Habitat and also helps on Saturdays. If you have question or are interested in helping let me know. Call Roger Eggert at 815 742 1988.

Spring Band Concert will be held next Sunday, May 15th at 5:00pm in the Elizabeth A. Temple gymnasium. You are all invited to hear our very talented band members perform!
