Generosity Moment - 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful.” Love is the greatest of the three “theological virtues” because God is Love. That is why love is the fulfillment of the Law, because the Law is the reflection of God's being and God is love. St. Paul urges the Corinthians to grow in love, to grow up into the image of Christ who demonstrates what love looks like with His sacrifice on the cross. It is in that Love that we are moved to give financially back to Him and His work through our weekly offerings.

St. Paulapalooza & Potluckapalooza takes place today from noon until 3:00pm. This is St. Paul’s first Open House of the year! This is a wonderful event for perspective families to learn about our school. Please invite families you know to this festive occasion. The bands will play, the kids will sing, there will be a craft table, a balloon man and of course the annual Book Fair! We will also have our 3rd annual Potluckapalooza. It is a potluck cook-off with a traveling trophy to the big winner! You may come and sample the food or even enter your own favorite dish. You may prepare an entry in any of the following categories: 1.) Appetizer 2.) Entrée 3.) Dessert or 4.) Kids category. Simply bring your dish before noon on January 31 if you would like to enter.

JOIN the LADIES GUILD and learn about the programs for children ages 5 to18 at "Rock House Kids" located on 7th Street in Rockford.  The meeting is on Wednesday, February 3rd at 1:00pm at the Northwest Site.  During January the following donations are collected and distributed to their children---wrapped Valentine or Easter candy, and new socks for Girls and Boys (ages 5 to 18).  They also accept any of the following individually wrapped items for the Kid Friendly Food Bags---cheese or peanut butter crackers, fruit snacks, puddings, Capri Sun, fruit cups, and 1oz. containers of dry cereal.  Remember to bring MITES and nickels from your Christmas Stocking.
Knitting ETC and Community Activity Day Potluck will be held at the Northwest Site on February 11th at 11:00am. Please come and join us in fun, food and fellowship. Bring a dish to share, everything else will be provided. We have a good time and keep in touch with each other.

If you are wondering what Knitting ETC is all about it is for anyone who wants to join in any type of handwork at all. Bring your project along each Thursday at 11:00 or just come when that day is available for you.  We learn from each other and have a good time together.

Community Activity Day is for folks who have the 2nd Thursday time available that would like to join together for some type of activity. A variety of options are available such as a game or discussion or whatever we together come up with to do. It is for ALL to come together and decide where this goes. Ideas are welcome. If you have any questions or for more information please call Lowes Eggert at 815-742-5788 or Olaf Bauschke at 815-282-2706.

Ladies Guild Midweek Lenten Potluck Lunches – Beginning Ash Wednesday, February 10th, Ladies Guild will host a Potluck Lunch in the Undercroft following the 10:30am service at the Central Site. The Guild will provide table service and beverages and members are asked to bring a dish to pass. We invite and welcome ALL to join us for the meal and fellowship as we follow our Savior’s journey to the cross during this Lenten season.

SPYS Super Bowl Subs will be for sale next Sunday, February 7th at both services. Please fill our your form and turn it in and you can pick up your subs between services next Sunday. Proceeds go towards sending our youth and counselors to the LCMS National Youth Gathering in New Orleans this summer.

Ash Wednesday is on February 10th. Join us for services at the Central site at 10:30am and Northwest site at 7:00pm. This begins our walk in repentance to the cross Jesus, the resolution of our sin and deliverance to eternal life on Easter. As in past years we will make use of ashes in the service for those willing so to remind us of our need of forgiveness but also it’s deliverance through the sign of the cross. Consider how you might dedicate yourself anew to weekly worship through our mid-week Lenten services that will follow on each Wednesday throughout Lent at the same times and places.

Midweek Lenten Worship Services - “Steps in Prayer” –This year we will again have opportunity for us to come together to worship our Lord in our Midweek Lenten Services.  This year Pastor Thies will lead us through a series of meditations called “Steps in Prayer” using the petitions of the Lord’s Prayer as our guide.  The series begins with Ash Wednesday up to Holy Week.  Please consider worshiping with us in this way on Wednesdays at 10:30am at Central and 7pm at Northwest.
Ash Wednesday, February 10:  “Steps in Forgiveness”
Wednesday, February 17: “Steps in God’s Name
Wednesday, February 24: “Steps in God’s Kingdom”
