Prayer for the Day is a daily devotional ministry. To hear a devotion recorded by Pastor Thies, please call the special Prayer for the Day phone number (963-7641) and then dial 3 when the call is answered.
Generosity Moment - Hebrews 3:18-19 “And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? 19 So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.” Unbelief leads to disobedience – that is, every sin expresses the opposite of faith. True and living faith guides us into the Lord’s way and the Lord’s plan. And when we fall into sin, it’s because we are not trusting the Lord’s goodness and provision. When we grow to trust, then we can truly give generously in regular fashion in our church offerings.
Our Church Secretary, will be out of the office this week and will return Tuesday, October 20th. The voicemail messages at the office will be regularly checked during this period. In an emergency, please contact one of the pastors directly at their home or cell numbers.
SOMETHING DIFFERENT RESUMES - We have taken a few weeks off after out marathon video and Bible study of “Answers in Genesis” materials. Beginning again this Wednesday, October 14th, we are planning to dip into some video based materials for Lutheran Hour Ministries, likely some being on the Reformation and its relevance to today. Come and join us and try SOMETHING DIFFERENT, Wednesday, October 14th at 6:30pm at the Northwest site. We have a fun group and good substance with Pastor Thies leading the study.
SPYs Cinnamon Roll sales are coming up at both sites on Sunday, October 25th at all services. You can buy small amounts on the spot. To secure that there will be enough, pre-order through a form or email jbeck96@aol.com. Dozen for $6; two dozen for $10; half for $4. Checks to “St. Paul Youth,” please. Help our youth get to this summer’s 2016 National Youth Gathering in New Orleans with your purchase.
SPECIAL CONGREGATION MEETING: In order to move forward and call a principal for our school next year, we need to form a call committee in a timely manner. Therefore, we will be holding a special congregation meeting at the central site on Sunday, October 25th, at 11:30 AM (after the late service). The only topic will be approving and appointing the call committee, so the meeting is expected to be brief. If you have an interest in serving on the committee, you may speak with Wendy Kissick, Board of Ed Chair, Jon Schuknecht, Congregation Chair, or Pastor Thies. Please plan to attend, and be a part of the school as it moves forward.
The 16th Annual Dinner Auction is right around the corner! The auction will be held on November 7th at Lino’s beginning at 5:30pm. We really are in need of donations! If you or you know of anyone who runs a business, has the talent of making or baking items or even donating financially, please ask if they would like to donate to this wonderful fundraiser! We already have received some wonderful donations such as: American Girl Doll, German Dinner for 6, Skydiving package, Amazon Echo and other nice items! If you have any questions, please contact Sue in the church office (815-963-5435) or Dyan in the school office (815-965-3335). Reservation forms are in the Narthex at both sites.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS Over the years, the Foundation Fund has received memorial gifts for a scholarship fund that is used for active St. Paul families who have high school students attending Rockford Lutheran High School. The annual earnings from the fund’s principal have been forwarded to Lutheran High for application to the student’s account. The Foundation Fund directors want to ensure the congregation of this wonderful blessing and publish the names of our high school students who are recipients of these scholarships. If your family is an active member of St. Paul and wish to participate in this program, please contact Steve Hartenberger with the name(s) and grade(s) of your Lutheran High School student by October 20, 2015, at 815-968-2089 or hrtnbrgr@comcast.net. The available sum will be divided by the number of respondents and submitted to the high school office after the deadline.
Toy Collection for Kids - Again this year, we will be collecting new toys for Christmas gifts for those less fortunate. We need toys for boys and girls. We would like dolls in all skin tones as we serve a variety of nationalities. We can use blankets or quilts in doll sizes that will be given with a doll. If you would rather have us buy the toy, we have volunteers for this job. If you purchase a Target gift card from the Script program we will help the school and a child. The cards could be placed in an envelope and marked Christmas Toys. Please contact Sandy Kahler with any questions at 815-877-7936.
Attention all military veterans – Veterans Day is observed the weekend of Sunday, November 8th this year. We would like to do a better job of remembering all of you and your service this year. To that end, we are trying to provide a full listing of military vets to be remembered at our service. Our church office has a beginning list but we would to flesh is out with more details. We would like name, rank abbreviation, branch, and the years in which you served. We want reservist and National Guard vets too. Please notify us at the church office at 815-963-5435 or church.office@stpaulrockford.org of any information you are willing to supply.
