Prayer for the Day is a daily devotional ministry. To hear a devotion recorded by Pastor Thies, please call the special Prayer for the Day phone number (963-7641) and then dial 3 when the call is answered.
Generosity Moment - Mark 9:24 “Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, ‘I believe; help my unbelief!’" Haven’t we often felt like this? Notice that Jesus does not throw the man out because of his weakness of faith. He still has pity; He still blesses the man as His Lord. But neither does Jesus leave people in weakness of faith. He blesses us and calls us to a deeper faith, as He did to the disciples in the boat on the storm tossed sea. How does our faith grow? By hearing the Word of God. What does our faith lead to as it grows? A godly life lived in thanksgiving to our Lord, which influences our level of generosity in our weekly church offerings.
Monday Morning Bible Class resumes tomorrow morning at 10:00am. Pastor Thies will continue to lead us through the last section of chapters of Isaiah that speak to God’s continuing promises of restoration for His people. Come and join us for fun, prayer, study of God’s Word and some wonderful morning snacks! Everyone is welcome!
SOMETHING DIFFERENT – is taking a few weeks off from it’s Wednesday get togethers. Please watch for what we’ll be doing when we resume.
Pastor Ciprys will be on vacation through September 20th. Please contact the church office or Pastor Thies at 815-962-2145 for any pastoral needs.
Would you like to represent our area churches at the 2016 LCMS Convention in Milwaukee, July 9-14? To be considered, you must submit your name to your pastor in advance of the Circuit 12 meeting at Mount Olive Lutheran Church on Thursday, October 1st at 7pm. There each area congregation will vote by their pastoral and lay delegate on who the lay, lay alternate, pastoral and pastoral alternate delegate for the Circuit will be to attend the Synod Convention in Milwaukee. If you are interested or want more information, please let Pastor Thies know.
The LCMS National Youth Gathering is set for New Orleans, July 16-20. St. Paul is working with our other area congregations to get our youth there. Deadlines to be included start September 18th for certain aspects. If you are interested in going and have not contacted Pastor Thies yet, please do so fast. To go, you must be 14 or going into 9th grade before the Gathering date.

St. Paul gets to host a piece of Rockford Lutheran’s 50th Anniversary events – Rockford Lutheran High School was founded by our congregation 50 years ago. What great results have been borne in the lives of near countless individuals over the last half century. To remember such things, the Association leadership is working with us for a special 8am service at Central site on Sunday, September 27th. As part of this special observation in the service, four new graduates from our LCMS Concordia Universities will be commissioned as new rostered worker in the LCMS. This is a great honor. Consider your Sunday happenings to include taking this in. It is a special honor for St. Paul to remember and be remembered this way.
Attention all military veterans – Veterans Day observed the weekend of Sunday, November 8th this year. We would like to do a better job of remembering all of you and your service this year. To that end, we are trying to provide a full listing of military vets to be remembered at our service. Our church office has a beginning list but we would to flesh is out with more details. We would like name, rank abbreviation, branch, and the years in which you served. We want reservist and National Guard vets too. Please notify us at the church office at 815-963-5435 or church.office@stpaulrockford.org of any information you are willing to supply.
Have you ever considered being a pastor or deaconess? If so, Rev. Bill Wrede from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis would like to meet with you at St. Paul Lutheran Church (Central Site) on Friday, September 18th anytime between 10:30am – 12:30pm. Rev. Wrede is interested in meeting with prospective students of all ages – elementary school through adults who are already employed in another vocation. Conferences are individual, informal and family/friends are welcome. Reservations are not necessary, but strongly encouraged. If you are interested in scheduling a specific conference time, please call Rev. Wrede at 314-505-7221 or email him at wredew@csl.edu to set up an appointment.
Church/School Picnic – Our Church Planning Council has decided to at least postpone our picnic to another date yet to be determined. If you are interested in working on having a church picnic, please contact Jon Schuknecht at 815-298-6378 or Pastor Thies.
St. Pauliday – Join us for the first St. Pauliday on Sunday, September 20th from noon – 4:00pm at Sam’s Drive-In, in Byron. St. Paul receives a percentage of total profits during this time period. Join us for great food and fun!
Dinner Auction 2015 – An American Girl doll, Julie, has been donated for the auction. Once again, we are asking for outfits for the doll. Last year we were able to make two packages which went over very well. You can buy or make an outfit, by sewing, knitting or crocheting. If you have any questions on sizes, please contact Sandy Kahler at 815-877-7936.
Toy Collection for Kids - Again this year, we will be collecting new toys for Christmas gifts for those less fortunate. We need toys for boys and girls. We would like dolls in all skin tones as we serve a variety of nationalities. We can use blankets or quilts in doll sizes that will be given with a doll. If you would rather have us buy the toy, we have volunteers for this job. If you purchase a Target gift card from the Script program we will help the school and a child. The cards could be placed in an envelope and marked Christmas Toys. Please contact Sandy Kahler with any questions at 815-877-7936.
