Generosity Moment - 1 Kings 3:4  “And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Solomon used to offer a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.” Now that’s a big sacrifice! But of course Solomon offered sacrifices in proportion to his wealth – the Lord had blessed him greatly, so his sacrifices were correspondingly large. Jesus also praised the widow’s mite, a small amount of money, but a great sacrifice in proportion to her means.

COME TODAY! - In the introduction to the Large Catechism, Martin Luther wrote "I must still read and study daily, and yet I cannot master it as I wish, but must remain a child and pupil of the Catechism, and am glad so to remain".  The Large Catechism contains the basic foundations that all of our doctrine is built upon: the Ten Commandments, the Creed, Lord's Prayer and the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper.  Would you like to dig deeper into these basic biblical doctrines that we as Lutherans hold so dear?  Join us as we study Luther's Large Catechism during Sunday morning Bible study at both the Central at 9:15am and Northwest site at 10:15am.

Jr. High & High School SPYS – Join us today after 10:30am worship in the gym for our Open Gym, Devo/Bible Study & Event Planning meeting.  We start at noon or so. Bring $5 for pizza.  We should finish around 3pm. We want all of you!

What happens to those extras? This week we passed out the near 100 "Portals of Prayer" from St. Paul that were left over at the Rockford Rescue Mission with an Invite sticker on them to come to our Sunday Services.  It's really neat how the people love to get them.  Some always want multiple copies to give others. Just think about how wonderful it is to have people “on the streets” perhaps saying the same prayers to the Lord that we do each day ... or at least some days.

Monday Morning Bible Class resumes tomorrow, January 5th.  Come join us for prayer and fellowship and the study of God’s word with Pastor Thies as we continue our study of Isaiah and its context in revealing how it speaks to us in our time.  Try us if you haven’t!

This Tuesday St. Paul hosts our area (Circuit 12) pastors who meet monthly at a different sister congregation to build each other up, discuss and study the Bible together.  In taking our turn yearly, we get to have them come and see firsthand the wonderful ministry we share in here at St. Paul.  We will be meeting at noon at Central site in the Conference Room.  We have met at the Northwest site some years too.

Pray for Pastor Dan Eddy & wife Berta who are visiting Christ the Rock Lutheran in Cherry Valley this weekend from the Boston area.  Dan & Berta went to seminary as members of St. Paul and he has a call to consider to Christ the Rock.  Pray the Holy Spirit moves them to rest in the best place to serve the Kingdom, whether here or continuing at their present congregation in Scituate, Mass.

A memorial plaque has been installed in the hallway outside the gym which remembers the friends of St. Paul who gave memorials to our school. You are welcome to visit the plaque and let us know if there is  a name that can be added. This plaque is in itself in memory of Richard “Dick” Schoonover.

St. Paul Lutheran School has seats available in the following grades: Kindergarten, 7th & 8th grades. Grades 1-6 are at capacity. However, we may make an exception in those grades if a sibling of a new student in grades K, 7& 8 were to enroll.

Do you want to hang out with kids and serve our school as well?  Then, we have fantastic opportunities for you!  We are seeking a volunteer study hall "sitter" on Mondays and Fridays from 12:30 - 1:15 PM.  The study hall has about 12 5th and 6th grade students. We are also continually looking for people to read with students.  Carol Ulrich is the coordinator for this effort.  Please contact the school office if you are interested in either valuable position (815-965-3335 est. 215 or stpaulrockford@gmail.com).

Closet Clean-up! - There is a need to clean out and reorganize the big storage closet in the back of the school cafeteria.  The items have been building and it is becoming difficult to move through the closet.  In addition, we are looking for some storage room for our dinner auction items.  We are planning a clean out party on Sunday, January 25 following the 10:30 AM service.  Please plan on attending if you believe you or your organization has items in the closet that should be saved.  We will remove everything from the closet and only return those items which need to be in the room.  A number of unnecessary items will find their way to the dumpster.  We could also use some helpful hands to assist us in the project.

Little Lambs is now accepting applications for fall enrollment. Please call Katie Lopez at 815-965-3335, ext. 218.

Offering Envelopes are available for you to pick up at each site. If you don’t see yours, please leave a note or call the church office (815-963-5435) and we will locate them for you.
