Prayer for the Day is a daily devotional ministry. To hear a devotion recorded by Pastor Thies, please call the special Prayer for the Day phone number (963-7641) and then dial 3 when the call is answered.

Generosity Moment - 1 Peter 2:11  “Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.” Surely one of the “passions of the flesh” we all struggle with is greed: the desire to have more things to bring us comfort and peace of mind. But that shows us the real problem with greed: it wages war against our soul – it urges us to place our trust in the things of this world and not in God. But St. Peter reminds us that we are sojourners and exiles: we belong to the Kingdom of God. We have been purchased by the blood of Christ and belong to Him. And so we can give our offerings knowing they are already His.

Glasses for Mission Trips – During May, Ladies Guild is collecting prescription eyeglasses, readers and inexpensive sunglasses for adults and children for the LWML of the Northern Illinois District. The glasses will be distributed during Mission trips done by our churches. Throughout May all glasses may be placed in the marked containers in the narthex at each site.

“SOMETHING DIFFERENT” resumes again this Wednesday, May 14th at 6:30pm at the Northwest site.  While it is “something different,” it does include a portion of Bible study on Revelation with Pastor Thies, some intimate devotional time together, prayer and relational fellowship.  Any time is a good time to try “something different.” Why not try “SOMETHING DIFFERENT?”

St. Paul Family & Friends – Mark your calendar! If you or your loved ones are dealing with grief from a recent (or not so recent) death, please plan on attending this seminar. Invite your family and friends also!

Did you know every time anyone makes a purchase at Guler's Appliance Store and uses a credit card that our school receives a gift?  It is true!  St. Paul has been receiving monthly checks from the company that processes credit card purchases made at Guler's.  We would love to have more companies join us in this program.  There is absolutely no cost to the customers and no additional fee paid by companies.  It is a win-win way to support Christian education in Rockford.  Anyone in our church can be an ambassador for the program.  You don't need to know anything about credit cards!  You simply need to have a passion for our school ministry.  Please talk to Mr. Volkert if you would like to learn more!

Please join us for our Spring Band Concert on Sunday, May 18 at 5:00 PM in the gymnasium.  This concert features our Beginning Band, Jazz Ensemble, and our wonderful Concert Band.    The students will perform a variety of music and you will be provided an evening of entertainment.  All are invited!

Job opportunities at St. Paul Lutheran School -  We are looking for candidates to serve as caring, Christian teachers in our 5th through 8th grades beginning in the Fall.  Please direct any interested people to our principal, Bruce Volkert.  You may call the school (815-965-3335 ext. 217) or send an email to principal@stpaulrockford.org.

Have you provided 10 names (or more or less) for our St. Paul Lutheran Support mailing list?  We hope to have our list together by Easter Sunday.  We have a new form available in the narthex which allows you to put all your names on one sheet.  Remember, those on the mailing list will simply receive a newsletter about our school and the ministry that we honored to provide.  We will not continually bug them with mailings!  We simply want more people throughout the area and around the country to be aware of our school ministry.  Please see Mr. Volkert if you have any questions.

Little Lambs is now accepting applications for spring enrollment. Please call Jan Morton at 815-965-3335, ext. 218.

Mrs. Lynn Warner is our school Admissions Counselor. You are always welcome to provide names and contact information to her for perspective school families. You can reach her at 815-965-3335.

SAINT PAUL LUTHERAN SCHOOL SPRUCE FEST 2014 - This year's spruce fest will start on Sunday June 15 and run through Saturday June 21. The majority of the work year will be painting with a few other small projects. Paint and supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring brushes, rollers, ladders, etc. Please visit Sign up Genius.com for shift times. If you do not have internet access or have any questions call and/or text Jeff Gibbons @ 414-405-4270, Samantha Wright @ 815-543-8722 or the school office at 815-965-3335.

Praise the Lord! Our school’s “Race for Education” has already brought in $7000.00! This money will be used to install an expanded playground structure on the church lawn. Thank you for all who contributed. We are still able to accept gifts for this project!

We Need Students! Our upper grades are near capacity but we have PLENTY of seats available in our lower grades! Please contact Mr. Volkert or Mrs. Warner with information you can provide for prospective families.

Band Camp – Our 12th annual band camp is June 23 –June 27. Mr. Schmid and Mr. Volkert are the camp directors. It is open to 5th – 9th grade students from any school with one year of band experience. To register a child please call, 815-965-3335 ext 217 or go to www.freewebs.com/bvolkert. Everyone is invited to our finale outdoor concert on Friday, June 27 at 7:30pm at the Northwest Site.
